If you're looking for off-kilter names, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Spock's Beard, and Nashville Pussy come to mind.
There's probably a thousand death metal bands whose names you could also include.

The best band name I've ever heard is Rumpleforeskin. I wish I could take credit... but alas I can't.

Wow...where are you located? I am actually the bass player from Jonesing for Soma, and I appreciate you naming our band as one of the "best band names ever". That's cool, and we haven't gigged since 1994! Keep up your blog, it's pretty solid.

I got familiar with the name while in college at Penn State. I think they were local to State College, but I can't honestly say I ever saw them (or you if it's the same band). But I moved to Seattle in 1994 so it just might be the same band!

Yep, one in the same...we were all Penn State guys. We played a good deal at Cafe 210, the Brewery and the occasional 'Skeller gig. Glad you dig the name. We were a strange band, and folks usually came out to see what the freak show would be for that night. Not your typical PSU cover/bar band. Hell, frats used to book us!

How about the EZ Bake Organs? or worse, as a buddy of mine likes to call his generic all-time spoof filthy band name: Pussy Discharge. That's as with an injury, you sick bastiges.
